Take your lady friend out to buy a pretty hat and…  Go South, young man.  Go South!  Go in the Spring.  And while there bet on some horses and sip Mint Juleps for a day.

Mint Julep

How to make:  Makes One Strong Julep  (recipe from the Derby’s bartender)  Take out that sweet tea pitcher and make up a big batch!

Make mint simple syrup. Bring 2 cups water and 2 cups sugar to boil, and cook until sugar has dissolved.
Cool and place in a covered container with 8 mint sprigs.
Refrigerate overnight.
Fill a silver julep with crushed ice. (for those of us who don’t have silver julep mugs hey! Tastes great in a regular glass.)
Add 1 tablespoon mint syrup and 2 ounces bourbon.
Stir rapidly to frost the outside of the cup.
Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
