Hurrah! I finally got my first book sale for the month of August!!! Yah! “A Girl Named Cord” is making a comeback!
Here is a little excerpt from the book.:
All was silent as the little party snuck to the barn. Cord was both thrilled and horrified that there had been no other guards outside the bunkhouse door. But at the barn, their luck abruptly changed. “I thought I made myself clear.” Mr. Gibson hissed, looking like he’d just woken up, standing in the doorway with his arms crossed. Behind him stood his small army. “If you valued your lives, you would have stayed put!”
Jake shoved Alton’s scrawny body in front of his own and demanded, “Stay out of our way, the lot of you, or you’ll have to pick up this kid with a stick and a spoon!”
In the moonlight, Mr. Gibson looked like he’d been kicked in the teeth. He stammered, “A-Alton?”
Jake insisted, “Get a move on!”
As one, the whole army sidestepped out of trigger-happy Jake’s way.
Mr. Gibson’s face was livid and he swore, “If anything happens to that kid, I’ll-”
Cord shoved Mr. Gibson back, not caring that she was putting herself in harm’s way as she spat, “You’ll what? Trap us? Torture us? Burn our house to the ground? You already did all that, so shut up before these fine gentlemen find any more reasons to kill you!”
Going very red in the face, Mr. Gibson held up his hands in defeat and backed away.
Cord couldn’t help but grin rebelliously as she tipped her hat to the whole gang, cheerfully adding, “Good evening all.”
